We’ve ridden HUNDREDS of trains in Japan, but this one that takes you from Tokyo to Nikko is still by far one of our absolute favorites
📍It’s called SPACIA X
And if you’re already planning a Nikko day trip you’d be mad to miss this one!
It honestly feels more like business class than a train with its huge windows, beautiful seats, a bar onboard… and yes, you can absolutely sit back and sip on a Japanese beer
We only booked the day before and almost everything was sold out, so we ended up in the cheapest standard seats. And honestly? They were SO comfortable I didn’t feel like we were missing out at all.

🚆 THE JOURNEY
From: Tobu Asakusa Station, Tokyo
To: Tobu-Nikko Station, Nikko
⏱️ Around 1 hr 50 mins
🚄 Shinkansen: around 10 mins quicker
✨ SPACIA X takes you there direct
💰 THE COST
Standard seat: around ¥3,000+ total one way
Shinkansen: around ¥5,000+ one way
So you’re saving roughly ¥2,000 per person AND getting the better train experience.
